Laura Prince B&W Recipe

Device: iPhone 5c
Version: 7.0.4
App Used: Aviary

For the Black and White photo assignment, I first took pictures using the camera app that was already on my iPhone. I then opened the photo in the Aviary app and I enhanced each photo by making them Hi-Def. After enhancing the photo, I chose the Metropolis filter because it puts the photo in black and white. I did the this same thing for each photo in the assignment.

After enhancing the photo and putting the Metropolis filter on it, I also played around with some of the other features on the app until I liked the way the photo looked. For this particular photo, I made the brightness a little darker to outline the pattern and the shapes in the photo. I also increased the contrast slightly to make everything in the photo more defined. The only other slight change I made after that was making the warmth of the photo more than the photo was originally. The Aviary app allows all this to be changed and more, making it a very useful app for this class.

I took this photo in a Chinese restaurant while I was in Chinatown. I liked the way the animals were divided by the gold bars, even though you cannot see the gold in the black and white photo. I also liked the contrast of the dark background and the shiny shapes of the animals. This design was on the ceiling of the restaurant and I liked to look up at it as I was eating and that's when I decided to take the picture.
