Version- iOS 7.0.4
App Used- Afterlight 2.2
For this photo (and all in my B&W collection), I first took this photo with my iphone camera app that is built into the phone. I utilized the touch screen to focus on the appropriate subject. This focus tool although limited can be proven to be very useful. After that, I opened the Afterlight app and chose this picture to edit.
Then I lowered the saturation to zero to create a black and white photo. With this one, I slightly tweaked the shadows setting. The contrast was already strong enough in the photo. I was careful not to over do any editig because I wanted to be able to appreciate this photo for its natural contrast and simplicity.
This picture was taken while working at my job, a camp for children with disabilities. We have weekend retreats once a month throughout the off season and the kids love it. This is the view from my cabin's front porch. Across the way is the back of the kitchen/dining hall. Past that is the mystery that is the dark, vast, forest.
