I used an iPhone 4 to take these photographs. It runs on iOS7.
I took the pictures with my regular iPhone camera. I tweaked them in apps that
I downloaded for free. I used Photo
Editor by Aviary which was version 3.2.0. I also used Camera Awesome version
1.1.9. I played around with the apps to
see exactly how much I could do.
These pictures demonstrate a
variety of techniques I used. My main technique was to find interesting angles.
I noticed the storm drain while outside. I thought about taking a picture
looking down. I then remembered that there was a window below and thought that
looking up is a unique angle. Not many people see this view of a storm drain. I
also tried to shoot very dark colors contrasted with very light colors. In the
hand photo, I contrasted my light skin and rings with dark nail polish, coat
and pants. I also used the auto enhance function within the apps.
I think that my strategy in all my photographs
was to get unique angles, and contrast colors, to make the black and white
filters really pop. I took my pictures in color at first. My recipe is to first
find an interesting item to photograph, much like the storm drain. Even if it
is a common item, I tried to think of ways that I have never seen it, hence not
taking a picture looking into the storm drain but looking from it. For black and
white photos, I made sure I was using really dark and really light tones. I
tried to make sure they were next to or near each other in the photo so you can
really see the contrast. Next, I used
the auto enhance in the photo apps to touch up the picture. I then used a black
and white filter. Lastly, I sharpened the pictures to make them clearer.
