I used an iPhone 4 to take these
photographs. It runs on iOS7. I took the pictures with my regular iPhone
camera. I tweaked them in apps that I downloaded for free. I used Photo Editor by Aviary which was
version 3.2.0. I also used Camera Awesome version 1.1.9.
I used
several different techniques to get my shots. First, I took a different range
of photo shots to get close ups and long shots. I also used the photo editor by
Aviary to make some of my photos, like the one of the building, black and
white. This gave my pictures an old, vintage look. I also used bright lighting
to make shadows in my pictures. I also used things to frame my shots. I used a
doorway to frame the hallway which gave the shot dimension. I put lighter
colors next to darker colors to make my subjects stand out more.
Some
strategies I used were all made to make the viewer’s eye go where I wanted it
to go. In the shot of the building, I made the doorway and windows very dark.
The doorway looms over the stairs which were the main subject of this shot. I
added these dark parts of the photo so that the steps would not have been
washed out with just a plain gray photo. In the shot of the hallway, I wanted
the viewer to “wander” down the corridor. I though the best way to do that was
to frame the picture down the hallway through a door frame. Each shot required lighting and shadows to
give them dimension. These strategies of framing and lighting are the tools I
used most,
First I
found a shot that meant something to me. I found shots that brought back
memories. I thought about the memories and if they were bright or solemn. My
memories for the building were bittersweet. So, I decided black and white was
the middle ground. White represents good and black represents bad. So I took
long shots of the building make sure the lighting was bright and cast some
shadow. Then I used editing software to enhance the image and make it black and
white. For the other image, I took a photo with bright lighting and made sure
shadows cast. I used basic editing software to enhance the image.
